Final Update on DeCamp – Good News

After weeks of worrying, lots of conversations, and hundreds of outreaches made from many of you, today we learned that NJ Transit is going to step up and fill most of the void left by DeCamp, effective Monday, April 10th, on an emergency basis until a more permanent plan can be put into effect. Note: This will mean no bus service the weekend of April 8th and 9th, and residents should plan accordingly.

They will pick up routes 66, 33 and 44. See map above. The routes will not align 100% to current DeCamp routes. The 4 modified routes will depart from Gate 208 at the PABT:

  • 191D – Provides alternate service for DeCamp’s Route 66 customers in West Orange and Montclair. Departs PABT from Gate 208, Door 1.
  • 192D – Provides alternate service for DeCamp’s Route 33 customers in Bloomfield. Departs PABT from Gate 208, Door 2.
  • 195D – Provides alternate service for DeCamp’s Route 33 customers in West Caldwell, Caldwell and Verona. Departs PABT from Gate 208, Door 3.
  • 199D – Provides alternate service for DeCamp’s Route 44 customers in Newark, Belleville, North Arlington and Lyndhurst. Departs PABT from Gate, Door 4.

Next Tuesday, April 4th, NJ Transit’s dedicated info site for these new plan and additional updates will go live here:

A new private service called BoxCar is also coming online to offer Montclair residents a pricey, but direct, coach transport to curbside locations in NYC. You can learn more about their plans here.

I want to thank the 320 of you who took the time to click through my last email to send in feedback to NJ Transit directly. I also want to thank the following officials who I know have been working the phones with us the last couple of weeks.

A special thanks to the offices I’ve been in touch with, who were helping: U.S. DOT, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Donald Payne Jr., State Senator Dick Codey, State Assemblyman John McKeon, Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill, Acting Town Manager Brian Scantlebury, Councilors David Cummings, and Bob Russo.

At this point, I’ll just provide updates on this in my regular newsletters and discontinue these one-offs. Glad we could get to this place.
