Montclair has joined a small but growing number of New Jersey towns, such as Hoboken, Princeton and Maplewood, that require single-occupancy bathrooms in businesses and municipal buildings to be labeled gender-neutral. On Tuesday, the Town Council passed three new ordinances in support of the LGBTQ+ community — lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary and gender-fluid youth and adults. The law on gender-neutral bathrooms passed by a 4-3 vote, with David Cummings, Robin Schlager and Deputy Mayor Bill Hurlock voting no. Mayor Sean Spiller and Councilors Bob Russo, Lori Price Abrams and Peter Yacobellis voted yes.
